Asaflex-Technical Data Sheet

DESCRIPTION
Asaflex is a two component, flexible adhesive suitable for most ceramic tile
installations including tiling on timber and is also ideal for areas of movement,
vibration or temperature fluctuation. Eliminates strike through of concrete and
shrinkage cracks to tiles. More cost effective than any other two-part adhesive.
Asaflex has such versatility, making it suitable for almost any ceramic tile installation,
wall or floor.
FEATURES & BENEFITS
Versatile
Water cleanable
Safe, non-toxic and low odour
Accommodates temperature fluctuations
Internal and external applications
Flexible
Withstands vibration
SURFACE PREPARATION
All surfaces must be clean, dry and be free from dust, grease, wax, oil, laitance curing compounds and all other contaminants
likely to prevent the adhesive bonding. Highly porous substrates must be primed with ASA Multiprime prior to tiling. Building
boards must be fixed in accordance with the manufacturer’s printed directions. Concrete should be allowed to cure for at least
28 days and cement render 7 days prior to tiling. A wood fl oat finish is preferred. Waterproof membranes must have dried in
accordance with the printed directions on the packaging. Smooth steel trowel finished concrete must be mechanically abraided
to increase adhesion.
TILING ON TIMBER
Timber floors must be dry, sound and free from any movement. Secure fl oor with additional nails and wedges if necessary. All
coatings or other contamination must be sanded off. Timber must be primed with ASA Multiprime prior to tiling.
EXPANSION JOINTS
Movement joints should be incorporated in the tile layout in accordance with AS3958.1-1991 clauses 5.4.5.1 to 6.
MIXING
1 litre Asaflex liquid requires 2kg of Asaflex powder. Add a measured amount of Asaflex liquid into a clean container and
sprinkle Asaflex powder slowly into the liquid with constant stirring. Eliminate lumps. Mix to a thick toothpaste consistency.
Allow mixture to stand for 2 minutes then remix. The adhesive is now ready to use.
APPLICATION
Apply the mixed adhesive to the substrate using the appropriate notched trowel for the size of the tile being laid. A minimum of
1mm bed thickness for walls and 3mm for fl oors (5mm minimum for timber fl oors) must be achieved. Ensure that the bedded
tiles are fully supported by the adhesive with no voids underneath or behind. Lay tiles into the adhesive before it skins. The
adhesive may also need to be applied to the back of the tiles to accommodate the required levels. Do not disturb the tiles until
the adhesive has dried. Commence grouting after 24 hours when tilework is firm.
GROUTING
Use ASA Grout Additive instead of water in the grout mixture to create a flexible and more resilient grout. Use the appropriate
ASA grout, allowing joint widths of 1.5mm to 6mm for walls and 3mm to 12mm for floors as per AS3958.1-1991 clauses 5.4.6.
CLEAN UP
Asaflex can be removed from the surface of the tiles using a damp cloth while the adhesive is still wet. Tools and equipment
can be cleaned with warm water and detergent prior to the adhesive drying.
