Tiling Fast Track to Full Route: QUA 750 NVQ Level 2 – Wall and Floor Tiling -Dartford, Kent, UK.
Able Skills has devised a three week fast track tiling programme designed to help you towards achieving NVQ level 2 in wall and floor tiling.
By 2010, it will be a requirement for anybody who wishes to work on a construction site, to hold a level 2 trade qualification and Experienced Worker CSCS card.
This particular Tiling course has been designed for those of you with little or no experience in wall and floor tiling.
The 3 weeks that you are with us will provide training in various different areas of tiling, guiding you at all times to meet the requirements of a Tiling NVQ assessment.
What is an NVQ?
NVQs are made up of a variety of mandatory units and sometimes, optional units also need to be completed.
To achieve a Wall and Floor Tiling NVQ, only mandatory units need to be achieved and evidence of achievement needs to be documented and recorded.
A fully achieved NVQ will declare your competence as a Tiler.
Practical Tiling Training
During your 3 weeks of tiling training, you will cover all aspects of your mandatory NVQ units which include:
- VRO1 – Conform to general work place safety
- VR02 – Conform to efficient work practices
- VR03 – Move and handle resources
- VR141 – Prepare backgrounds for tiling
- VR142 – Tile wall and floor surfaces
Materials you will work with will be varied and will include:
- Ceramic
- Porcelain
- Mosaic
- Marble
- Slate
The areas that you will work in to tile include both kitchens and bathrooms, dealing with sockets, angled ceilings, windows, toilet/WC, pipes, uneven surfaces and will also include the use of tile trims.
Throughout the tiling training, you will be under the guidance of Able Skills Assessors who are qualified to give you the correct training and skills to move you in the direction of the Tiling industry and towards gaining a level 2 NVQ in Wall and Floor Tiling.
Theory Tiling Training
During your 3 week tiling training package you will have received practical training to cover the NVQ units but additional training will be provided by way of classroom based theory, handouts, portfolio building, book references etc as it is important that you fully understand how to build an acceptable portfolio of evidence to secure obtaining a level 2 Tiling NVQ.
The portfolio and candidate work pack you will receive at the end of this 3 weeks of tiling training will be your guidance once you are working within the tiling industry. The portfolio will clearly define which performance criteria and knowledge requirements are expected in order to achieve each unit and if you follow the guidance in detail, you will eventually be able to submit this evidence to Able Skills NVQ Tiling Assessors for NVQ achievement.
You must always remember that an NVQ is proof of competence in your profession or trade so all performance criteria must be met.
If all criteria is met in full on each unit, your NVQ will be achieved.
As NVQs are a declaration of your ability to carry out your own job, much care must be taken to ensure attention to detail. If you decide to enrol onto a tiling NVQ programme, we can provide support and guidance all the way through, from tiling training to tiling assessment.

As you gather your working evidence you will have the option to send it electronically to your designated NVQ Assessor to enable him to track your progress and ensure that you are on track with any assessment plan you have agreed, from then, we can arrange your site assessments, should they be required, as and when you are ready.
This training option of 3 weeks of tiling to cover the NVQ units is fast paced and a fantastic opportunity to gain a great understanding of how to achieve a level 2 tiling qualification however, if you would like to take more time to learn tiling in greater detail, other tiling training course options are readily available:
Providing you with the opportunity to undertake a tiling assessment in order to achieve a City & Guilds Unit Accreditation
Providing the City & Guilds Unit Accreditation and in depth training in tiling with natural stone materials like slate and marble (Plus NVQ guidance)
Provides training as in the 4 week package with a week for tanking and floor screeding and a full assessment of your skills in a bathroom or kitchen (Plus NVQ guidance)
Provides training as in the 6 week package with a week dedicated to plastering to ensure you are able to prepare surfaces to receive tiles and a further week covering Geometric and Victorian tiling (Plus NVQ guidance).
